Best Husband Ever

Pin It Now I don't know about you but my husband isn't exactly one to start organizing the house at will.  Don't get me wrong he cleans and is more domestic than a lot of guys.  A couple days ago I did something nice for Ricky with no expectation of anything in return.  A few days later I returned to find an amazing gift.  You see we have this amazing and large walk in closet however we haven't really had a chance to organize it yet.  So it looks like this.

Imagine my surprise when I walked into my closet after a hard day of work to find this.  I'm pretty sure that I just stood there in awe for like a half hour.  Isn't he amazing.

A Seat For Every Behind

Pin It Although we love our chairs that we bought on craigslist a couple of years ago they don't match our new dining nook's cool modern feel.  So we've been on the hunt for new chairs.  We found them and they are awesome.  So lets look at the old dining chairs

Cute but not awesome.  So enter the new chairs...they are also from Ikea and therefore are very budget friendly I think like $30 or so a chair but don't quote me on that.  Now all we need is pictures on the picture ledge and we can consider this room done!!!!

Cha Cha Cha Changes...

Pin It Like many people we have waited and completed some other rooms before working on our bedroom.  However, now the bedroom is well on its way to a more "us" product.  So lets take a look at what our bedroom looked like before.

We hadn't chosen any bedding, we hated the fan, and the wall color was less than desirable.  After some debate, Ricky and I decided that gray and white horizontal stripes would be in order.  We began by painting the entire room white.  The next step was taping off the stripes.  We discussed the exact width of the stripes for a while but decided upon 7 inches of white followed by 14 inches of gray.  If you're trying this at home and can't decide....we just started marking stripes on the wall and after several options decided what  was best for us.  Ricky used a level to measure (gasp, its not very accurate but a lot more convenient) and mark off the stripes and I followed behind him with tape.  For this project we used green Frog brand tape.  I was skeptical at first as the brand claims that they have a powder that seals to the wall when paint hits it, but I must say there was zero bleeding with this tape even though we were putting the paint on it really thick.

After we applied the tape and 1 coat and some touch ups of gray later here is the finished project.  While I didn't love it at first, it has become one of my favorite projects and I really think it looks great.

Another recent change is the addition of this great dresser from Ikea.  We actually were able to decide and get rid of the other dresser that had seen better days.  The knobs that came with this piece were hideous so we bought some new ones at Home Depot and presto cool new bright shiny dresser.  Also, we have been stocking up on accessories for this room.  So on this dresser you can barely see some of the new smaller additions to the room.

We have been busy furniture shopping so enter the mid century nightstand from West Elm (and his twin).  We fell in love with these and even though they are way more than what we usually pay for...well anything we absolutely love them and saved some money on other projects so we felt we could splurge.

Finally, I can show you the finished product with the fan!!!! YAYYYYYYY!!!!! This fan is so sleek and happy and I can run it on high all night with little noise.

And whats a wolf pack post without a cute animal so here's Lunches enjoying the new dresser or maybe looking away at disgust at the old one.

And here's the good after product.  We still have a long ways to go but the shell is pretty much complete so now to find the fun stuff like curtains and bedding.

Ceiling Fan Urgh

Pin It The ceiling fan that was previously in our bedroom was terrible.  It was huge, too low, and not at all our style.  So after a year of disagreeing on a choice Ricky finally let me get the fan I wanted.  I was so excited to take it home (you know how you get you just want to see it up).  When we got it home it was already dark outside but Ricky tried to install it for me anyway using a flashlight.

You know its bad when your usual helpers are out for the night.

You know its bad when your usual helpers are out for the night.

Well after installing it we were so excited at about midnight to flip the switch and enjoy.   Then it happened.....nothing we turned it on and nothing happened.  So we took it back apart several times to try a few things.  Still nothing was working.  So we thought maybe it was the fan itself and returned it for another fan.  However, we still didn't have success.  In the end after a week without lights we called a professional electrician in.  He determined that the old fan remote transmitter was still installed in the ceiling (A HUGE FIRE HAZARD) and remedied the problem for a very low rate I might add.  So now we have an amazing fan and can see at night.  I will post some after pics with the bedroom transformation for you guys but I couldn't be more thrilled.

Gardening Update

Pin It As previously mentioned I don't really have a green thumb, but that wasn't going to stop me from having some amazing home grown veggies and herbs this year.

After preparing the soil on the side of the yard it came time to plant.  So I got out my seeds and gathered some helping paws.

Ricky built this wonderful container pictured above and I painted it bright yellow followed by filling it with soil and planting seeds for a variety of herbs along with cucumbers.  Also, just like every other time I go the home improvement store and Ricky isn't with me I buy another plant for this porch.  So entered this colorful guy.

After a couple of weeks went by my plants look like this!!!! I couldn't be more thrilled that they actually have come to life (there is hope for my gardening skills)

Left to right we have....cucumber, basil, two types of dill, oregano, thyme, and parsley

Ok, ok I cheated on the end there the parsley, oregano, and thyme are store bought plants not seeds.  After a couple of weeks of the seeds not coming up I gave in.  But, the other are mine honestly.

In the back container is a cherry tomato plant (also store bought not from seeds), and in the fore front is cilantro.  I had read somewhere to grow it in a shallow wide pot and harvest every week.  Thats not a problem as of right now because we only have one real cilantro leaf and Im pretty sure Max ate it.

On the side of the house if you'll remember we were doing lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers.  Well the lettuce is doing great.  And is pictured below.  However the tomatoes well were working on that.  I'm hoping that a fresh dose of fertilizer will make the puny stems we have now look like well actual tomato plants.  Same with the one remaining pepper plant hopefully the trick will be this fertilizer but I'll let you know.

So here are some shots of the side "garden".

Make You A Broken Man Camping 2012!!!!

Pin It The wolfpack loooooves to camp!  We usually try to make a point to go twice a year, once in the fall and again in the spring.  Mainly because this breed of wolf can't tolerate extreme temperatures.  This go around I was especially excited because we missed out on traditional fall camping due to massive misadventure (lets just say it was bad) and instead opted to camp in our basement.

Every time we camp we bring lots of food and pretty much just eat all weekend.  However, as some of the WP eats really healthy I always try to prep and bring meals that match that.  So on Monday I prepared all the food.

Our Menu:

BBQ shredded chicken with roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, asparagus, artichoke, and green (wolf) sauce.

Hotdogs, and sausage and a slew of other foods that everyone else brought including salsa, cookies, and chex mix.

Well that doesn't really sound healthy but there is plenty to choose from and some good decisions to be made.

The weekend started with me picking up Jana and getting an awesome tour of their new house which is a beautiful new canvas for all of Jana's awesome ideas.  You can check it out at her blog here at http://dancingcommas.blogspot.com.  Her blog is really awesome.

So next Jana and I met up with the rest of the gang in North Georgia for a great camping weekend.  We did some serious hanging out

Then we did some paddle boating....

And the dogs were there hanging out, sleeping, and digging.

But by far the game/activity of the weekend was ladderball.  The boys played all day and at the end of the day we had a couples tournament.  The WP is very competitive so it gets a little serious.

At the end of the weekend we stopped at an overlook to take pictures.  I can't tell you looking at these pictures how much I enjoy being around this group of people.  Its so amazing to get out into nature and just relax, enjoy great food, and the best company.
